Departed Family Members

Peggy Handy Knox, 59, of Harmony, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 19, 1950, in Wilkes County, and was the daughter of Gladys Shumate Handy, of Roaring River, and the late Lonnie C. Handy. Mrs. Knox was a homemaker and was a member of Elmwood Baptist Church, where she was active in the church and in the church committees. She was a graduate of East Wilkes High School, class of 1968, and was married to Robert Steven Knox, who survives, of the home. In addition to her mother and husband, Mrs. Knox is survived by a daughter, Wendy Knox McKeehan, of the home; four grandchildren, Anthony McKeehan and Andrea McKeehan, both of Gastonia, and Nathantel Lafone and Austin Lafone, both of the home; three sisters, Joyce Faw (Bobby), of Hays, Marie Jolly (Milton), of N. Wilkesboro, and Mary Parker (Jeff), of N. Wilkesboro; and two brothers, Carl Handy (Tammy), of Roaring River, and Ray Handy (Deborah), of North Wilkesboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Elmwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney McAlister and Brother Jason Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in the Middle Cross Baptist Church cemetery in North Wilkesboro. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. this afternoon at Elmwood Baptist Church, prior to the funeral hour. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Peggy Knox.
